Notis Georgiou conducts Schubert, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Shostakovich

This double album features Notis Georgiou’s first recordings as a conductor, realized at the early age of 24, conducting two of Hungary’s most remarkable orchestras, the Orchestra of the Hungarian Ministry of Interior and the Budapest Concert Orchestra. Notably, both institutions engaged him as their conductor while still an Academy student.

The performance of the works, recorded live at the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy of Music, met unprecedented success and acclaim and overnight established Notis, previously known as an exceptional guitar virtuoso and a phenomenal interpreter, as a ‘born’ conductor’ and ‘a most mature artist’, predestined for a beautiful future’. Along the 19th– and 20th-century masterpieces, including the landmark Symphony No. 5 of Shostakovish and the unforeseen beauty of Mendelssohn The Hebrides Ouverture’s interpretation, the listener will enjoy a performance of the rarely played Schubert Symphony No.2, reviewed as ‘The best classical symphony performance held in Liszt Academy in the last 50 years.’
